Cannes Lions 2010 -- Cut+Run is proud to be part of the Grand Prix-winning team for the inaugural Cannes Film Craft awards with Philips “The Gift.” The cinematic thriller titled "Podarok" (“The Gift”) was written and directed by RSA's Carl Erik Rinsch and edited by Cut+Run's Dayn Williams and Dan Swietlik.
The brilliant project was part of an innovative and compelling Philips campaign 'Parallel Lines' where RSA Directors generated five very different films from one piece of dialogue to tell the story. You can see all the work on the Philips website: http://www.cinema.philips.com using the Philips' 'Ambiplayer' - a special online media player which recreates the effect of Philips' unique Ambilight technology. The project was launched via Facebook and other social media sites.
Cut+Run editor Dayn Williams, who previously collaborated with Rinsch on projects for Hiscox Insurance and Sci-Fi channel, calls Podarok: "an amazing opportunity to edit a commissioned film with incredible scope, brilliant imagery and feature film pacing." He adds, "plus I got to work with Carl and Dan Swietlik, ACE. It doesn't get better that that."
Dan Swietlik adds, "The story has an interesting arc, starting out in a very slow and subtle way, but ending in a surprisingly chaotic cliffhanger. It's a wild trip in an anachronistic world created by director Carl Erik Rinsch -- a pleasure to work with because he's basically a mad scientist with a camera."
Picking up the Grand Prix award for Film Craft at Cannes last week was a real celebration for Cut+Run as well as RSA Films.
The work can also be seen on Cut+Run’s Wiredrive.
