Hot off the back of the Australian Academy of Cinema & Television Arts (AACTA) Awards, Ambience Entertainment picked up two more prestigious accolades at the Kidscreen Awards in New York for its work on The Adventures of Figaro Pho.
The two Kidscreen Awards for ‘Best Design’ and ‘Best Animation’ in the Creative Talent Category tops a dream run for the Sydney animation company following the AACTA Award for ‘Best Children’s Television Series’. Ambience Animation Director and Co-Producer David Webster shares the awards with production partners Dan Fill and Frank Verheggen of Melbourne’s Chocolate Liberation Front, series creator Luke Jurevicius and his design team in Adelaide, and ABC3.
Developed with and commissioned by ABC3, the series was produced for an audience of 6-14 year olds. The awards are recognition for many years of hard work, a journey which began in 2008 when Jurevicius conceived Figaro Pho as a series of 1-minute shorts that aired on ABC TV. Now with a bigger team and heightened production values, The Adventures of Figaro Pho screens as a series of 13 x 30-minute episodes on ABC3 and has sold to Canal+ in France and Cartoon Network in Latin America and Asia.
To help further prepare for a busy 2013, Webster and the Ambience crew have set up a new production studio in Sydney’s creative hub of Chippendale. The move provides a fresh environment for the team who are currently developing a wide range of projects for film and television.
“We’re not long into 2013 and it’s already been an exciting year for us. We’ve picked up three fantastic awards for Figaro Pho which we’re so proud of, and now we have this great new creative space in Chippendale and a host of new shows underway. We couldn’t be happier right now,” said David Webster.
